Presentation
In 1994, Bruno and Sybille du Parc moved to Zambia to develop, on a sustainable
basis, a forestry management project.

Called upon by a population that was looking for ways to subsist without the means
to do so, and then fascinated by their wisdom and determination, they made a
decision to invest theirselves personally and to contribute to certain projects.
In order to do this, they created several non-profit organisations:  Abantu Zambia
is one of them.

Working Philosophy

Sustainable and autonomous development forms the basis of our collaboration.
Our goal is to listen, understand and enable the inhabitants to set up their own
projects, in order to live and develop by themselves in their villages.  This
concerns a true cooperation where all objectives are shared by ourselves and the inhabitants.

Our work consists in finding within this large population those who are qualified.
Then in cooperation with the inhabitants, we manage the application of their skills.

Areas of Operation

It is important to note that Zambians initiated all projects.  The villagers themselves founded the projects and compose their councils.  This is a necessary starting point
for the execution of projects in the following areas:

1 Education

Schooling is not provided for 40% of Zambian children.  Therefore,
the basic request of the villages is to have a primary school.  This enables
villagers to keep their children at home, avoiding the high cost of education
in large cities, the AIDS virus, prostitution and family moves to cities.

2 Health Care

As health care is indispensable, villages are grouping together to draw
up projects for the creation of dispensaries, health care centres,
maternity wards, orphanages, etc.

3 Agriculture and Stock-farming

The fight against malnutrition and the creation of food self-sufficiency
form a necessary transition to survival and the development of the population.
They also enable villagers to have incomes that finance the schooling of their children.

4 Aid for financing agricultural projects

A system of financial help has been set up to permit farmers to finance the
purchace of seeds and fertilizers, and to enable others to start small
buisnesses.
